Step 1: find your real costs
Take your bank's statements for the last four quarters – usually available as documents in online banking or on the statement at the end of each quarter. Add up all charges, fees and costs, not just the account fee.
Divide the annual total by four and enter the amount in the calculator above. You will see what your current account costs you per year and over five years.
Step 2: separate the cost types
Banks name the items differently. This table helps you sort them – we deliberately give no figures, because every bank and account model is different:
| Cost type | Where to find it | Check with Wise Business |
|---|---|---|
| Account fee | Quarterly statement, your bank's price list | One-time setup and ongoing costs per Wise's pricing |
| Transactions / items | Bank statement, often as a transaction or item fee | For us no fee per transaction |
| Transfers | Depending on the bank: online, paper, express | Fees for certain transfers per Wise's pricing |
| Cards | Annual fee for debit or credit card | Card fees per Wise's pricing |
| Cash | Withdrawals and deposits, counter fees | Withdrawing with the Wise card costs extra – for us up to €10.79 for €400 |
| Foreign currency | Conversion, international transfers | Conversion fee per Wise's pricing, rate shown before sending |
Step 3: compare honestly
- Use your actual number of transactions per quarter – not an average.
- Include the costs that stay with your bank (e.g. the account fee for the cash account).
- Read Wise's current pricing and check the items that matter to you.
- Factor in the effort of switching: new IBAN on invoices, direct debits, bookkeeping.
Our experience, as of October 2026: around €700 per quarter at our companies, over €2,000 per quarter at a small association. Your figures may look very different – that is what the calculator is for.
